This beautiful aquarium is located in a large building built originally for
a World's Fair in Montreal. The aquarium has been in operation for about
six years. Their scientific staff first examined their nitrogen budget in
order to determine the need for denitrification equipment. They learned
that they would need to change about 15% of their water annually in order
to maintain a reasonably low level of nitrates
Next, the staff began to examine several different technologies for
denitrification but they quickly decided that EcoMat's system was superior
because it required less maintenance that the others. So, they purchased a
one cubic meter system for their 740,000 gallon exhibit.
Biodome exhibits relatively cold water fish and they maintain a temperature
of 10C in their water. Therefore, to reduce condensation on the outside of
pipes and tanks, they insulate their systems.
